Fashion consultant and show producer Tod Hallman has styled such diverse talents as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, Jodie Foster, Drew Barrymore, Christian Bale and music personalities Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Alanis Morrisette, Toni Braxton and Kelly Rowland, just to name a few. Today we’re happy to interview Tod at T4L Blog and present his new Winter Suits Collection for Sumissura.
Q. What does made-to-measure mean to you?
For me made-to-measure means having the ideal platform like Sumissura, that gives the consumer the opportunity to select a garment which could be anything from a – suit, dress, top or pair of pants that fits perfectly and represents ones individual style.
Q. Tell us more about your new suits collection for Sumissura? What inspired you?
I wanted to do a women’s suit collection that had a masculine twist but was still very feminine and beautiful. I guess you would call it the ultimate power suit designed for a woman. I loved experimenting with the plaids and prints giving them a sleeker more modern contemporary fit. I want women who buy this collection to feel empowered and confident while looking very chic and stylish.
Q. What makes a great woman’s suit to you?
I think a great women’s suit is functional as well as stylish and feminine. There’s nothing worse than a woman in a suit that looks like it was cut or designed for a man.
Q. You have styled many celebrities. Which is your favorite one?
That’s a great question. One of my favorite celebs who I have styled is the beautiful Marg Helgenberger formerly of “CSI” (long time American TV Show.) She’s so lovely and looks amazing in clothes. In working with her for red carpet events, as well as at a photo shoot it’s been a fun experience to find great colors and prints that highlight her beautiful skin-stone and amazing red hair.
Q. And who would you really like to style and haven’t yet?
She’s another redhead who I met briefly and would love to style: the incredible Tilda Swinton. I was so captivated by her presence and unique androgynous style! I think it would be a fun opportunity to style her.
Q. Do you have idols in fashion business?
Another great question, do I have fashion idols? … Well of course the first that comes to mine is the late great Diana Vreeland. Diana had such a unique and fascinating style that was so eclectic and encompasses a little of everything, which is how I like to personally dress. I’m also a big fan of Karl Lagerfeld and what he’s done and continues to do at Fendi and Chanel and his own brand. Karl Lagerfeld is a genius at reinvention and moving a fashion house forward and knowing what the next big fashion trend will be.
Q. What are the 3 items that every woman needs in her closet?
1) A beautiful black cashmere sweater. It goes with almost everything and is the perfect piece for a date or an event that can easily be thrown on over the shoulders when it gets chilly.
2) I also think every woman needs a great pair of nude heels which are a great way to elongate the leg as well as disappear and not detract from an outfit.
3) Also I love jewelry accessories that can take a woman from day to evening. So many woman today need to go from the office to cocktails meetings and dinner without having time to change so this is essential for any business wardrobe.
Q. What last piece of style advice would you give women?
I think that no matter what the age of a woman is, she needs to be conscious of wearing clothing that are age and event appropriate. Be mindful of dress hem lengths, as well as necklines and fit. An ill-fitting garment is never a good look.
